NHS Winchester

As many opportunities do, it started with a phone call for help

Smart secured the electrical and data refurbishment project for The South Central Ambulance Service in Winchester and needed an experienced, reliable electrical contractor to take on the demanding roles of designers, consultants and installers for the various new critical installations.


Smart met these roles with enthusiasm in the knowledge of the complications and obstacles involved in a project of this nature. As a design and build project all documentation and drawings stayed live throughout the duration of the project and were subject to change and verification throughout, as new ideas are put forward by the client or ourselves.

In addition, as the call centre is responsible for taking Ambulance 999 calls we needed to insure the installation would meet high standards of integrity, as well as being energy efficient and complying with all the latest building regulations. The electrical system using three forms of electricity supply namely Utility Company, LPG powered backup generator and a UPS as well enforcing power factor correction and full harmonisation throughout.

Some key milestones are requirements were:


Working as part of a team, Smart delivered on time and within budget.

The design, installation and commissioning of the Electrical distribution systems.

Internal and external lighting , Compliant to Part L and Breeam Fire alarm, fire aspirating, and fire suppression systems.

Access Control, CCTV and a Cat6 data network capable of withstanding and routing 999 emergency calls and data.
